Kalukonen (rätischer Stamm)

The Kalukonen (Latin Calucones, ancient Greek Καλούκωνες Kalukones) were an ancient tribe in Rätien. It is uncertain whether they were rulers or Celts. They are to be distinguished from the Germanic tribe of the same name on the middle Elbe. They lived in the Rhine valley south of Lake Constance, the exact location is controversial, possibly in the area around Chur or north of it in the Vorarlberg.

In the year 15 BC, The Kalukonen were subjected during the alpine campaign by Tiberius and listed as one of the 45 defeated Alpine peoples in the Tropaeum Alpium. Pliny the Elder also refers to this event. In addition, they are still mentioned in the geography of Ptolemy, which localizes them in Rätia between the Suanets, Riguskern and Vennontern.
