Fernando de los Llanos

Fernando de los Llanos and Fernando Yáñez: High altar of the Cathedral of Valencia, 1507

Fernando de los Llanos was a Spanish painter of the Renaissance, who was active around 1510 in the Valencian region. He is said to be from Santa María de los Llanos in the province of Cuenca, as his name implies. Together with Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, he painted the twelve paintings of the high altar in the Cathedral of Valencia from 1507 to 1510. They show scenes from the life of Jesus and scenes from the life of Mary.

The style is influenced by Leonardo da Vinci, which leads to the assumption that either Fernando de los Llanos or Fernando Yáñez is the 'Fernando spagnuolo' mentioned by Vasari as Leonardo's collaborator.

Although Fernando de los Llanos is somewhat inferior in artistic skill Fernando Yáñez, both painters are seen together as particularly influential on the development of a Spanish style of the high renaissance of the region. To make it the Renaissance School of Valencia (span escuela renacentista valenciana).

The champions of Alcira are expected to be the successors or students of Fernando de los Llanos. Weblinks Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text Standard data (person): GND: 121063380 (PICA, AKS) | LCCN: no98123090 VIAF: 67313342 Wikipedia People Search
