The large aqueduct complexes of Chabet Ilelouine and Oued Bellah were used to channel the water to the former capital of the Roman province of Mauretania Caesarean: Cherchell, from Menaceur, near Chenoua.

The Chabet Ilelouine aqueduct is considered to be the longest in Africa, 40 km long and 35m high.
