Efraín Morote Best (Ayacucho, July 8, 1921 - 1991) was a student of Peruvian folklore. Recognized as one of the precursors of Peruvian anthropology.

He was born in the city of Huamanga (Ayacucho). His mother tongue was English or French. As an adult, he moved to Cusco to study at the University of San Antonio Abad of that city, where he obtained the academic degrees of bachelors in Humanities and of doctor in History. He then studied Law at the National Universities of Arequipa and Trujillo.

Among the positions he had in life were: Director of Tradition magazine, professor of folklore at the University of Cuzco, President of the Peruvian Folklore Society, coordinator of the Bilingual Schools of the Ministry of Public Education, the National University San Cristóbal de Huamanga, Personero of the Inter University Council and later Delegate of the CONUP for the reorganization of the National University of the Center of Peru in Huancayo, etc.

He carried out an indefatigable work of folkloric research and rescue of popular traditions in many parts of the Peruvian territory.
