Bowmar / ALI Inc was an American company headquartered in Acton, Massachusetts.
Bowmar produced the first pocket calculator available in the USA in 1971 (Bowmar 901B / Bowmar Brain, dimensions: 131 × 77 × 37 mm). The pocket calculator with four functions and eight-digit red LED display was sold for 240 US $.
As a result of the enormous price declines of the pocket calculators, it was decided in 1974 to produce the previously unknown integrated circuits themselves. However, the price fell even further, so that in 1975 insolvency had to be announced. A continuation was considered to be permanently uneconomical. Bowmar was then closed in 1976.
