Marcelo Arturo González Amador received the priestly ordination on 18 December 1983.

Pope John Paul II appointed him as titular bishop of Segia and auxiliary bishop in Santa Clara on 31 October 1998. The bishop of Santa Clara, Fernando Ramon Prego Casal, donated the bishop's ordination to him on 20 December of that year; Co-conspirators were Beniamino Stella, Apostolic Nuncio in Cuba, and Pedro Claro Meurice Estiu, Archbishop of Santiago de Cuba.
