Elastic instability

Elastic instability refers to a set of phenomena of geometric nonlinearity that manifests itself in that the displacements in a structural element are not proportional to the applied forces. This is evidenced by the fact that within certain ranges of displacements and forces the equations that model the structural element have non-linearity. This behavior is also verified with scaled physical models or even life-size real pieces. Phenomena of elastic instability
