Serenata n.º 7 (Mozart)


The Serenade for Orchestra in D major, K. 250 / 248b, also known as "Serenade Haffner", is a serenade by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who receives his nickname from the Haffner family.

Nickname

Mozart's friend and contemporary Sigmund Haffner commissioned the work with the intention of using it in the course of the premarital festivities of his sister Marie Elisabeth Haffner and her future husband, Franz Xaver Spaeth. Indeed, the serenade was first performed on July 21, 1776, on the eve of the wedding. Structure

It consists of eight movements:

The second, third and fourth movements are characterized by prominent violin solos. In fact, the rondeau (fourth movement) has been arranged for solo violin and used as a popular piece of virtuosity. The interpretation of the work usually lasts about fifty-five minutes.
