José Antonio Saracíbar


José Antonio Saracíbar Sautúa (Bilbao, June 13, 1941, is a Spanish politician and trade unionist, has been President of the Francisco Largo Caballero Foundation.

Electrician by profession, he joined the Spanish Socialist Workers 'Party and the General Workers' Union in 1971 during the Franco regime. He was indicted and convicted of illicit association in 1973 for two and a half years in prison.

Member of the Executive of the Socialist Party of Euskadi from 1976 to 1980, the Confederation Executive of UGT from 1980 to 1994. He was Deputy by the PSOE by Vizcaya to the Congress in the 1986 elections, resigning a year later by discrepancies on government policy on budgetary matters. Until his appointment in 2002 as President of the Largo Caballero Foundation, he held various positions as Labor Counselor in Lisbon of the Spanish Embassy in Portugal and in advisory bodies of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. In 2007 he leaves the presidency of the Foundation although he continues forming part of his Patronato.
