James Dougherty, named Jim or Jimmie, was a criminal officer of the Los Angeles Police Department and the first husband of Marilyn Monroe . Edit LifeQualtext

Dougherty was 20 years old when he met and married the then unknown, sixteen-year-old Norma Jeane Baker through neighbors in 1942. Shortly thereafter he went on a voyage for the merchant marines. He became a crew member of the B-17 Bomber Liberty Lily in the Second World War.

Hollywood's later sex symbol was discovered by a photographer as a model and made a career. In 1946, the couple were divorced by mutual agreement. Monroe later went on to marry - with baseball star Joe DiMaggio and writer Arthur Miller - who were also divorced.

In 1947, he married Patricia Scoman when he joined the LAPD. Three daughters came from this marriage. The divorce was filed in 1972. After 24 years with Scoman, he joined Rita Lambert for the third time before the Traualter. They were married until their death in 2003.

He has been working for the Los Angeles Police for over 25 years. He could never have been "Mister Monroe", he told the "Sun-Journal" in 1997. He had fallen in love with a small town girl and not a film star. But up to Monroe's death in 1962 he followed the career of his ex-wife. In the book "To Norma Jeane with Love, Jimmie", he wrote down his memories of the four years of his marriage.

James Dougherty died in August 2005 at the age of 84 years. According to his deceased, he was suffering from leukemia.

In 2004 the documentary Marilyn's Man was directed by Shani Krug on Dougherty. Single-level Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
