The Memorial of the Heimkehrer on the Leopoldsberg in Vienna was erected in 1948 in the "Remembrance of the more than 200,000 prisoners of war and abducted who are resting in foreign soil".
The memorial was created by the Italian-Austrian sculptor Mario Petrucci on the initiative of Federal Chancellor Leopold Figl. The foundation was laid on 4 August 1948 and the revelation took place on 12 September 1948. In 1983, the memorial plaque was attached to the memorial at the entrance.
It is built on the foundation of a "defensive tower" of the former castle at the Kahlenberg. It consists of a circular masonry with four niches, inscribed with inscriptions, as well as a tapered rectangular pylon with a sacrificial cup, which was once fireable.
