Flemming was a landowner on Leussin on the island of Wollin and Kanonikus on the Magdeburger Dom. From 1807 to 1842 he was a district administrator of the Usedom-Wollin district and lived in his time in Swinemünde. He resigned his office after becoming Erblandmarschall von Hinterpommern in 1842. He belonged to the Provincial Day of the Province of Pomerania. In 1824 he married Karoline Königk (1801-1877). The two had six children.
Theodor Fontane, who knew Flemming and his wife from his childhood in Swinemünde, describes both in his autobiographical novel "My Childhood" and makes them appear in "Effi Briest" under the name Instetten. Edit source text Single-level Edit source text
