Polydextrose
Polydextrose (E 1200) is a synthetic compound of glucose, sorbitol and citric acid. The chain-like sugar-like, long-chain molecule can not be degraded by the digestive enzymes and acts on the human organism from a single dose of about 50 g or a daily dose of about 90 g.
Polydextrose is added to foods in the food industry as a carrier, filler and moisturizer. It is generally permitted in the EU as a food additive of the designation E 1200 without a limit on the quantity of foodstuffs.
