Max Ras

Ras, the son of a tailor, was in Switzerland from 1905 (naturalized in Stein in 1917). He completed an apprenticeship in Zurich and graduated in Bern in 1908. He then took a medical examination, but he broke it off. From 1909, Ras worked as a stenographer at the Swiss despatch agency in Zurich; in 1916 he switched to the Basel news. In 1926 Ras founded the Swiss Observer. In January 1927, the first edition was distributed free of charge to all households of German-speaking Switzerland in a circulation of 661,404 copies.
