The Differdingen Castle is a castle in the village of the same name in the south of Luxembourg. It serves Miami University as a European branch and houses the John E. Dolibois European Campus. Edit HistoryQual
The foundation stone, according to a source of 1310, a brother of the knight of Zolwer, who built a castle on the place of today's castle. In 1400 his family had become extinct. Afterwards, there were several owners before the castle burned out in 1552.
In 1577 the building was rebuilt by Anne of Isembourg as a Renaissance castle. A moat was also laid out and shooting ranges were installed. In the following centuries, the castle changed again several times, before it went in the middle of the 19th century to the family de Cressac. Their heirs sold the castle to the German-Luxembourg Mining and Metallurgy Company in 1914 and has since then been owned by the companies that operated the Differdinger Schmelz (Hadir, Arbed, Arcelor, Arcelor Mittal). Already from the Hadir, the castle was transformed into a casino to receive high guests in it.
Since 1997 the castle has been rented by Miami University, which uses it as a branch and campus. Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext Commons: Schloss Differdingen - collection of pictures, videos and audio files
