Jurij Chěžka
Jurij Chěžka (* July 22, 1917 in Horka / Hórki, † 1944 near Kragujevac, Yugoslavia) was a Sorbian poet. He is considered one of the first representatives of modern Sorbian poetry and the most progressive representative of Sorbian literature of his time.
The son of a stone worker from Horka visited the Archbishop's Gymnasium in Prague from the age of twelve, and began his studies of Slavic studies and German studies in the Czechoslovak capital. In 1939 he was drafted into the defenses; In 1944 he deserted in Yugoslavia and died unexplainedly.
