Odnodworzew won his first World Cup race in Kuopio in November 2001, where he finished his season sixteenth. Since then, he has won four FIS races and has won the twelfth place at a 50km race in Oslo, which was Odnodworzew's best World Cup result. In addition, he has already been among the top 10 with the season seven times, but never on the podium. At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Turin, he won the ninth place in the Pragelato Plan. His best ranking ever at World Championships was a thirteenth place in the season at the 2003 World Championships in Val di Fiemme. At these world championships he also achieved his best single result at world championships, a 20th place in a 15 km race. Maxim Odnodworzew reached rank 41 at the Tour de Ski 2007/2008.
