Theodoros Skutariotes

Theodoros Skutariotes (middle Greek Θεόδωρος Σκουταριώτης; * ca. 1230) was a Byzantine cleric and official under the rule of Michael VIII Palaiologos.

As a deacon, he worked on the alms system (επί των δεήσεων) and was named Dikaiophylax (δικαιοφύλακας) in 1270. Then he served as Ambassador of the Byzantine Emperor to Pope Nicholas III. (1277) and became the Metropolit of Kyzikos (Μητροπολίτης Κυζίκου) until its deposition 1282.

The German historian August Heisenberg identifies Skoutariotes with the author of an anonymous chronicle, which is now in Venice. The chronicle begins with the creation of the world and ends in 1261. It is a continuation of the chronicle of Georgios Akropolites, who wrote the most valuable work of this kind in the 13th century.
