Lymphangion
Lymphangion is the part of a lymphatic vessel that lies between two valves. These are, similar to the veins, to be regarded as duplication of the endothelial cell layer. The lymphangion has a longitudinal and an annular musculature. This layer is provided by numerous nerve endings associated with the vegetative nervous system. These nerves belong to the parasympathetic network and stimulate the lymphangion to contraction (at rest 10 to 12 times per minute) and thereby ensure the transport of the lymph. Because of these contractions, lymphangonia is also referred to as "lymph-heart". Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext Commons: Lymphangion - collection of pictures, videos and audio files
