Community wave is the term for some frequencies in the medium-wave range where broad-band transmitters of low power (for example as a transmitter or for local supply) can be operated at a sufficient distance from each other. In order to avoid transmitter overcurrents (see "steady-state operation"), the transmission power is strongly limited at these frequencies. In Europe these are the frequencies 1485 kHz, 1584 kHz and 1602 kHz.
In Germany these MW frequencies have not been used by the ARD institutions since 2010, only AFN broadcasts to 1485 kHz in four southern German locations.
In accordance with the propagation conditions of shortwave midwaves (> 1200 kHz) one has no or very weak reception during the day. During the night, a tangle of distant stations is often to be found on these communal waves. Single-level Edit source text Weblinks Edit sourcetext
