Justin Diraviam received the sacrament of priestly ordination on April 6, 1935.
On April 13, 1967, Pope Paul VI appointed the archbishop of Madurai. The Internuntius in British India, Archbishop James Robert Knox, gave him the bishops' ordination on the 9th July of that year; Co-conspirators were the bishop of Tiruchirappalli, James Mendonca, and the emeritus archbishop of Madurai, Jean Pierre Leonard SJ.
