Tuishou (Chinese 推 手, Pinyin tuīshǒu, pushing hands'), or English Pushing hands, denotes a partnering exercise in the inner martial arts, For example the Taijiquan.
The partners face each other and touch each other on the arms and hands. In a continuous movement loop, one of the practitioners exerts pressure on the other practitioner's arms, trying to give pressure and neutralize the pressure, then apply pressure.
In the Tuishou one learns to implement the principles developed by practicing the form also in contact with a partner, it trains the perception and a firm stand.
In the free Tuishou, which no longer follows a prescribed course, but in which every movement of the form may be applied, the practitioners can demonstrate how they have internalized the principles of Taijiquan.
The exercise is a pre-exercise for the use of martial arts and trains both perception and technique.
The exercise is similar to the Gluing Arms, as well as the Exercise Gloves of the Wing Chun (chin. 黐 手 kant. Chi Sao).
