Juan Hurtado de Mendoza el Limpio

Juan Hurtado de Mendoza, nicknamed El Limpio (14th century), son of one of the first of the extended lineage of the Mendoza Family, Juan Hurtado de Mendoza el Viejo, was a military man and politician from Castile of great influence , to the service of the Crown. Lord of Morón, Olmeda de la Cuesta, Gormaz and Almazán. The marquises of Almazán, Cañete and, later, Miraval and Vessolla would descend from it.
He was a person of vital importance during the reign of Henry III of Castile, whom he served as guardian, and during the minority of Juan II of Castile. It occupied thus the place of privilege that had its uncle, Pedro González de Mendoza, occupying his position of majordomo majors of the king. He supported the cause of the Trastamara in the battle of Najera, providing military services as Ensign, as well as with Henry and John II, also with John I.
He excelled by his skill in Castilian politics, being a prominent preceptor of the two kings, Henry and John II. He occupied the Council of Regency in 1391 and married Maria de Castilla, granddaughter of Alfonso XI the Justiciero, and chozna (daughter of tataranieto) of Alfonso X the Wise. Bibliography
