Headquarters Schweikertsreuth
Chapel of the Residence
The Schweikertsreuth estate was located in today's Schweigertsreith district of the municipality of Maria Schmolln in the district of Braunau am Inn.
The castle is mentioned in the Urbar of Friedburg from 1363 as sicz Sweykkersrewt of the Hanns Sweykkersrewtter. In 1503 a Hanns Schweikertsrewtter was mentioned at Schweikersreut. After the extinction of this sex, the seat came to the counts of Tattenbach-Rheinstein as a Bavarian knighthood under Elector Max Emanuel in 1691. In 1848, the heirs of the Baron von Handel owned the property, and sold it in peasant hands. The castle, converted into a farmhouse, does not exist today.
The village is today important because of the Innviertler coal mine Schweigertsreith, which maintains old Innviertler traditions (Landlertanzen, Bandltanz, Maypole erections, Maschkerergehen). Edit source text Single-level Edit source text
