The Abbotsford and Northeastern Railroad was a railway company in Wisconsin (United States). It operated the approximately 24-kilometer-long railway line Abbotsford-Athens. Edit HistoryQual
The railway company was founded on April 12, 1889 and intended to connect the city of Athens with a cross-connection to the north-south routes of Wisconsin Central Railroad and the Milwaukee Road between Abbotsford and Wausau with branch to Merrill. The construction work began soon and on October 1, 1889, the first section of Abbotsford at the Wisconsin Central operated up to Athens. However, it should remain, the railway company went out of funds and the thin settlement of the area east of Athens prevented the further construction.
The passenger traffic was sparse. The timetable of 18 November 1909 provided for a working train pair as well as another, which only operated on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The trains took an hour for the whole route.
On 1 February 1910, the Wisconsin Central acquired the train. For its part it had been owned by SooLine Railroad since 1909. The route has been shut down today. Single-level Edit source text Edit source text
