Primary agammaglobulinemia
Primary agammaglobulinemia is a group of hereditary immunodeficiencies characterized by lack of antibodies.
Antibodies are proteins (immunoglobulins) essential for the immune system. B lymphocytes produce them. Antibodies fight against bacteria, viruses, and other foreign substances that threaten the body.
Agammaglobulinemia can also occur on abnormal B lymphocytes. In some forms of primary agammaglobulinemia, neither lymphocyte (T, B) is functioning normally.
There are three clinical forms of primary agammaglobulinemia:
All these diseases are characterized by a weakened immune system that should be strengthened with the administration of gammaglobulins to fight infection.
