Ludwig Powillon

Liudvikas Povilonis studied theology and church law at the Vytautas-Magnus-University of Kaunas from 1930 to 1934 and later worked as a teacher at the Gymnasium Marijampolė. From 1931 to 1940 he was editor of Šaltinėlis. On June 29, 1934, he was ordained a priest. From 1960 to 1966 he was in prison in Pravieniškės and in Vilnius. On 7 November 1969, he was appointed Titular Bishop of Arcavica, ordained bishop of Telšiai, ordained on 21 December 1969 by Juozas Matulaitis Labukas, and from 1984 he was Archbishop. From 1969 to 1973 he was auxiliary bishop of the Bishopric of Telšiai, administrator of Kaunas and Vilkaviškis from 1979 to 1988 and administrator of the bishopric of Panevėžys from 1983 to 1984.
