Ignaz Bösendorfer (1796–1859).
Ignaz Bösendorfer (Vienna, July 28, 1796 - April 14, 1859) was an Austrian musician who founded the piano manufacturing company L. Bösendorfer Klavierfabrik in Vienna in 1828. Biography
Ignaz Bösendorfer was born on July 28, 1796, the son of the Viennese carpenter Jakob Bösendorfer and his wife Martha. At the age of 19, Ignaz started as an apprentice in the workshop of organ and piano builder Joseph Brodmann in Vienna.
In 1828, Ignaz Bösendorfer applied for the commercial license to create his own piano manufacturing company, L. Bösendorfer Klavierfabrik. In addition, he took over the business of his master Brodmann and began producing instruments on his own.
At that time, Franz Liszt tried a piano Bösendorfer, a fact that gave great social repercussion to the company. In 1830, the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I awarded him the title of K. K. Hof- und Kammerklavierverfertiger ("Maker of Imperial Chamber Pianos and the Royal Court"). At that time he won numerous gold medals and prizes.
With increasing demand for his pianos, Ignaz began to think about founding a new factory, but did not live to see this reality. He died in 1859 and after his death, his son Ludwig replaced him at the head of the company.
