Gisela, daughter of Pepin the Short

Gisela (757-810) was the daughter of Pepin the Short and his wife Bertrada de Laon. She was the sister of Charlemagne and Carloman. The biographer of Carlomagno, Eginhardo affirms that Gisela had been dedicated to the religion since its infancy. She became a nun in the abbey of Chelles, where she eventually became an abbess. In this capacity, he supervised one of the most prolific nuns scriptoria active in the 8th and 9th centuries. According to Eginhardo he got along well with his brother Charlemagne, who "treated him with the same respect he had to his mother." He died in 810 in the convent where he had lived most of his life.

Charlemagne and his wife Hildegard called their daughter Gisela. Gisela the young woman could have lived from 781 to 808, but little more is known about her life.
