Calf book
A calf book is a medieval codex in which the privileges of churches and monasteries were copied for use.
The calf is a book in which churches and monasteries copied their privileges and belongings for manual and current use. In the Synods it is ordained that in order that, with due diligence, the memoirs, dispositions and goods dedicated to divine worship and pious works be kept and in fulfillment of the apostolic constitutions, there should be in every church in the dioceses a book entitled Becerro, where all possessions, inheritances and tributes of all factories, profits and chaplaincies with the goods donated for anniversaries, feasts and memories in each church are settled, declaring in the seats the trades anniversaries, masses and memories to be said and the goods of the said possessions and estates, place and place where they are and the boundaries that each of them has, well clear and specified. This book must be kept in the file along with the other scriptures and documents belonging to each respective church of the dioceses. (Synodal, lib. Ni, tit. V, Const. Ii.)
