Calescamantes
Calescamantes is a recently proposed candidate bacterial cutting edge, previously known as EM19. They have been identified in the springs of the Great Boiling Spring Park, Yellowstone National Park and other geothermal land springs. It includes aerobic organisms and chemoorganoheterotrophs with oxidative phosphorylation by type F bacterial ATPase. In addition, they are facultative anaerobes that can use oxidized nitrogen sources as an electron acceptor to breathe in the absence of oxygen and proteins as a primary carbon source. Genetic analyzes suggest that they are different from the functionally similar Aquificae and that they constitute an early branching of the Bacteria domain. Slavers are related to the phylum candidate Pyropristinus.
