Yajir.
Yajirō (jap. ヤ ジ ロ ウ / 弥 次郎, or Anjirō (ア ン ジ ロ ー) or Anjero (ア ン ジ ェ ロ) for Angelo, probably after 1510, † after 1548) was a Japanese samurai from the province of Satsuma, the Basque Jesuit Francisco de Xavier y Jassu from Japan in 1547, which marked the beginning of the Christian mission in Japan.
Fernão Mendes Pinto reports in his epic biography that Yajirō had fled to a Portuguese ship in the harbor of Yamakawa in 1547 because he had committed a murder. Pinto had met him there and later became acquainted with Francisco de Xavier, who was thereby inspired to his missionary trips to Japan.
After conversion to Christianity, Yajirō was also known as Paulo de Santa Fé. Standard data (person): LCCN: nr2002018004 | NDL: 01039124 VIAF: 297729647 | Wikipedia People Search
