Juan Rehr
Juan Rehr (Prague 1691, Lima 1756) was Cosmographer of the Viceroyalty of Peru. Biography
He studied at the college of the Company of Jesus in Prague. He entered the order of the Jesuits in 1709, and made religious profession in 1728. He was destined in the missions of the Moxos, in present-day Bolivia. Due to his knowledge in construction, he was required by the Jesuits of the province of Peru to repair their temples and buildings, and the Archbishop of Lima ordered him to rebuild the city's cathedral. He also designed the Santiago Apostle Church, located in the Plaza Mayor of Surco Viejo in the Santiago de Surco District, which has a single canyon and a subterranean crypt.
He was appointed Major Cosmograph by Viceroy José Manso de Velasco in 1749, whereupon he was in charge of the Mathematics Premium Chair at the University of San Marcos. He published the yearbook Knowledge of the Times from 1750 to 1756.
