Juan Bautista de las Casas
Juan Bautista de las Casas was a Mexican insurgent who participated in the Independence of Mexico. Independence
He joined the armed struggle in San Antonio de Bejar, capital of the Province of Texas, when he was Captain of the Provincial Militias, rising on January 22 and apprehending the governor Manuel Maria de Salcedo and the former governor of Nuevo Leon, Simón de Herrera and Leyva, sending them to Monclova, where Mariano Jiménez was. Jiménez, ratified the fact of the Houses and appointed him governor of Texas. Days later he received Ignacio Aldama and Fray Juan de Salazar. An agent of ex-governor Manuel María de Salcedo, surnamed Zambrano, seized him on March 1, released the prisoners, returned the property to the former owners and declared himself an antiinsurgent. Casas for his part was sent to Monclova, where he was shot in March of 1811. Bibliography
