José Rosauro Acuña Chacón


Fray José Rosauro Acuña Chacón, (Santiago, 1766 - Isla Juan Fernández, 1817.) doctor and Chilean patriot. He entered the Hospital Order of San Juan de Dios and was a doctor in the hospital that he had in Santiago. In Chillán, where he moved to run a health center, he stood out for his patriotic ideas and came in contact with Bernardo O'Higgins and Pedro Ramón de Arriagada. When in 1813 the Spanish troops took the city, it was captured and embarked for the Callao (Peru), soon to be imprisoned by order of the tribunal of the Inquisition. A year and a half later he was returned to Chile and there he was confined along with other patriots in Juan Fernandez Island, where he devoted himself to attending his sick companions to death.
