Myoglobinurie

Myoglobinuria is the excretion of myoglobin in the urine.

This is caused by all disease processes or injuries to the transverse and cardiac muscle, which lead to increased myoglobin levels in the blood (myoglobinaemia). Due to its low molecular weight of 17,100 Dalton, myoglobin is quickly excreted through the kidneys and is therefore a very sensitive parameter of myoglobinaemia.

An acute renal insufficiency (crush kidney) may occur in the context of a pronounced myoglobinuria, such as Crush syndrome. Conversely, increased serum globulin concentrations occur more rapidly in advanced renal insufficiency. Edit Special Forms
