Scheu studied economics in Mainz. Here he joined the Corps Hassia-Giessen at Mainz. In addition, he already worked for the Südwestfunk as a freelance employee, before he was hired as a sports reporter at the SWF in Baden-Baden in 1971. He became well-known through his activities as a radio reporter of games of the football league. He also reported, among other things, on table tennis, skiing and Formula 1 on the radio.

For South-West Television, he moderated the broadcast of Sport and reported on world championships and the Olympic Games.

Hans-Reinhard Scheu was a sports car chef at the SWR until he finished his job in 2005 and retired. Today he is also the chairman of the sports journalist association Baden-Pfalz.
