Civic Union (song)
"Civic Union" is an instrumental tango of 1904, written by Domingo Santa Cruz, being his first composition. Alfredo Bevelaqua took him to the pentagram since the bandoneist Domingo Santa Cruz did not know the musical writing. The score is a good example of the bandoneon variations for which Santa Cruz was known. For its appealing melody was part of most of the repertoires of the tango orchestras of the twentieth century. History
The author dedicated the tango to the political leader Manuel J. Aparicio, political of the district of Almagro, one of the most traditional of Buenos Aires. The Civic Union was the first Argentine organic party. It was divided in 1891 into National Civic Union and Radical Civic Union. Aparicio had always been a Mitrista, so he remained in the National Civic Union in 1904, when the tango was composed.
"Civic Union" along with other tangos, left testimony on the Argentine political life. In 1890 the revolution of the Park introduces the popular sectors into politics. In the same way the politics, its more illustrious personages or fundamental episodes adds to the subjects touched by the authors of tango.
"Civic Union" was part of many repertoires. The author did not leave recording record. In 1962 it was recorded by the Orchestra of Caesar Zagnoli.
