Urica
Urica is the capital of the parish of the same name located 45 km southeast of the town of Santa Inés, in the state of Anzoátegui in Venezuela.
It is located at the geographical coordinates: 09 ° 43 '00 "north latitude and 64 ° 00' 30" west longitude. It was founded by the Spanish in the middle of the 18th century on a plain washed by the waters of the Urica River and the River Amana, surrounded by the most famous cattle breeding sites in Anzoátegui and known as a large producer of smaller fruits.
In this town memorable war actions took place such as those of José Félix Ribas and José Francisco Bermúdez against José Tomás Boves. On September 12, 1814, the battle of Curareque took place; the 5 of December of that same year the famous battle of Urica in which Boves died and for that reason it has its tomb in the town. On April 27, 1870, the Battle of Altagracia took place, and on February 20, 1902, the Battle of the Bridge.
In 1879, by arrangement of the National Congress of the Republic, the Great State of the East was created, whose capital would be Urica. This territorial political division, which at the time was conformed by the present states Anzoátegui, Sucre and Monagas, remained in force until 1881 when it received the name Bermúdez State, in 1898, finally to adopt the denomination Sucre State. >
