Talestris
For the plant genus of the acanthaceae family called Thalestris, see Justice (genus).
Queen Talestris was, according to Alexander's Romance, a queen of the Amazons who took 300 women to Alexander the Great hoping to raise a race of children as strong and intelligent as he. Engraving of 1696: Visit of Talestris to Alexander.
According to legend, Talestris remained with the Macedonian king for 13 days and nights hoping that a great warrior would father a daughter with her. However, several historians of Alexander the Great dispute the claim, including the secondary source Plutarch. In his work he mentions that the secondary naval commander of Alexander, OnesÃcrito, was reading the Amazon passage to the Thyssenic King of Thrace who was in the original expedition; says that the king smiled and said "Where was I, then?".
