Brad Goode had violin lessons at the age of four, then switched to the guitar and eventually to the cornet. During the Highschoolzeit he had as a bassist and trumpeter first professional performances. He studied with the trumpeter Vince DiMartino at the University of Kentucky, then bass at Larry Gray in Chicago at DePaul University, where he earned the master's degree in 1987. In the mid-1980s, he performed at the Jazzclub Green Mill. From 1986 to 1998 he directed his own formations in Chicago, a. with Von Freeman; he also starred with Rosemary Clooney, Red Rodney, Jack DeJohnette, Al Cohn, Curtis Fuller, Eddie Harris, Ira Sullivan and Frank Morgan. He taught, a. at the American Conservatory of Music, the Cuyahoga Community College, the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music and the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he is currently teaching as an associate professor. In 1989, he presented his post-bop-oriented debut album Shock of the New at Delmark Records, followed by productions for labels such as Steeplechase and Origin Records. In the field of jazz, Goode worked with 27 recording sessions between 1988 and 2010.
