The gaudlates in the Maindreieck are a shallow, fertile and intensively agrarian highlin in subfiles, framed in the south-west, south and east by the incision of the Maintal. In the vicinity of the Main Valley the relief of the gauplates is somewhat more intense through the incised inflores. According to the natural spatial structure of Germany, the landscape forms the main unit 134 within the Mainfränkische Platten (main unit group 13 [= D56 according to BfN]). About the north-west of the Würzburg-Schweinfurt line, the more gentle and partly wooded Wern-Lauer plates border the second natural area (135) in the Maindreieck. Together with the Ochsenfurter Gau and Gollachgau south of the Main (Hauptstudium 130), the Gäuplatten in the Maindreieck form the arable region of the Franconian Gäulandschaften.
