Remote Radio Head
As a remote radio head, RRH for short, the mobile phone is called the external, all weatherproof mounting of power supply, transceiver, power amplifier and duplex filter at the antenna mast. Communication with the base station is usually done via a fiber optic connection.
For direct mounting on the antenna mast, a lower transmission power is required because of the shorter HF line (usually a waveguide) to the antenna, which considerably increases the efficiency. In addition, the sending distance can be set up several kilometers from the base station (for LTE: eNode B, for UMTS: Node B, for GSM: BTS).
