Popular Guerrilla Group
The Popular Guerrilla Group (GPG) was an insurgent group from Mexico, founded in Chihuahua in 1964 by a group of rural teachers, students and peasants. Some of its members were leaders of the Popular Socialist Party (PPS). The theoretical leaders were Arturo Gámiz García and Pablo Gómez, the military part was in charge of Salomón Gaytán.
The GGG was the first Mexican insurgent group inspired by Che Guevara's guerrilla warfare. Oscar González Eguiarte was also present. On September 23, 1965, they decided to attack the Madera barracks in the Chihuahuan sierra. This event became emblematic for the future guerrilla generations of Mexico. In fact, the 23rd of September Communist League, one of the largest insurgent organizations operating in Mexico, was inspired by the date of the event to become autonomous. Bibliography
