Igor (character)

Igor or Ygor is a character type of assistant or steward of various types of villains (Dracula, mad scientist and others), who suffers from kyphosis, common in several characters of horror films and in their parodies.

Origin

One of the first representations of Igor is as an assistant in the movie Metropolis of 1927; then in the first film of the series Frankenstein (1931), the assistant Fritz (Dwight Frye), commonly known by the name of his successors Igor. Already in the sequels The son of Frankenstein of 1939 and the ghost of Frankenstein of 1942, the character (played by Béla Lugosi) would be named Ygor. Nevertheless, that personage, nor had hump or laboratory assistant, but a blacksmith mentally insane and with tendencies to break necks, that the monster reanima like an instrument of revenge against the inhabitants of the town that wanted to hang it.
