Juan Nepomuceno Ravelo
Ravelo was born in Santo Domingo in 1815. On May 19, 1842, he married Maria. Altagracia Abreu Razón (Santo Domingo, 1818-Santiago de Cuba, 1910), with whom he had 6 children: 2 females and 4 males, he was an army colonel having an active participation in the independence of 1844.
He participated in the political movement The Reformation, led by Haitian liberals whose aim was to undermine the dictatorship of Jean-Pierre Boyer. This cost him prison in Haiti. Although he was always identified with the Dominican rebels, Ravelo decided to leave the revolutionary radicalism that promoted Juan Pablo Duarte to integrate itself to the internal political struggles.
After Dominican independence, Juan Nepomuceno Ravelo served the governments of Pedro Santana, Manuel Jimenes and Buenaventura Báez indiscriminately, holding various positions, including Minister of War and Navy, and Attorney General of the Court of First Instance of Santo Domingo . It gave its support to the annexation of 1861, after the triumph of the Restorers, to leave the Republic next to the Spanish troops to go to reside to Santiago de Cuba, where it passed away in 1885.
