Airbus (Lufthansa)

The concept of transport Airbus (partly written also Air Bus) was an attempt, introduced by the German Lufthansa 1963, to sell passages on the route between Frankfurt and Hamburg without prior booking. In addition to low flight prices, the elimination of all formalities was especially novel. The tickets were sold in the machine. Lockheed Super Constellations, released in the North Atlantic service, were deployed. The luggage was limited to 15 kg, and no board service was offered.

The flights were offered two or three times a day, mainly as day trips, For example, at 8.00 and 20.00 hours; they were not flown under Lufthansa flight numbers, but carried the flight numbers A 1 to A 6. The price for round trip was 135 DM almost exactly with the for the rail journey with the as luxuriously valid Trans-Europ-Express, however with the advantage of the flight time of only 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Plans were also made for further routes from Frankfurt as a starting point to Munich and Düsseldorf as further targets.

However, the calculated profitability threshold of 50 sold tickets per flight could not be reached with an average of 37 guests, and the offer was terminated after just over a year. Edit sourcetext Single-level Edit source text
