The post of Figueroa is a historical site of the party of San Andrés de Giles, Buenos Aires province, Argentina. Its oldest buildings date back to 1755. It was a typical estanzuela or hacienda de campo, located on the old Camino Real to Upper Peru. Its origin goes back to September 2, 1755, when Major Tomás de Figueroa acquired a vast expanse of land from Doña Maria Teodora de Suero and Giles, wife of General Jose Ruiz de Arellano, and settled in the place next to his wife Rita Casco and Barragán, descendant of the founding family of Chapel of the Lord, and its children: Pascual Antonio, Gerardo, Bartolomé, Catalina and Micaela Figueroa and Casco. It was declared a Historical Monument of the Province of the Province of Buenos Aires by means of a law dictated in the days of the governor Antonio Cafiero.
There was signed the historic "Charter of the Hacienda de Figueroa" signed on December 20, 1834 by Juan Manuel de Rosas and addressed to Facundo Quiroga, considered a golden page of the political life of that time. The original was taken by Quiroga at the time of his assassination in Barranca Yaco in February 1835.
He was visited by several personalities of Argentine history, in transit through the Camino Real to the north, including generals Estanislao López, Ángel Pacheco, Lucio Norberto Mansilla, Juan Lavalle and José María Paz, the latter when he was brought in quality of detained from the Customs of Santa Fe to the Cabildo of the Villa de Luján (fact indicated in his Memoirs). Don Juan Manuel de Rosas visited the estancia on several occasions given the existing friendship with the owners of the house because of their federal filiation, including in 1831 on the occasion of the terrible drought that devastated much of the province of Buenos Aires. It is currently inhabited by Julio Oscar Figueroa Castex, a direct descendant of the primitive settlers, his wife Amelia Tapia and his numerous family. Thanks to the presence of the Figueroa family in the place it has been possible to maintain this historic site despite the absence of official assistance at national, provincial or communal level for its maintenance. It was located within the vast region known as "Pago de Areco", but since the delimitation of Buenos Aires parties provided by law 541 of 1864, regulated in 1865, the estanzuela was clearly located within the limits of the party of San Andrés de Giles. That has brought a series of confusions about their location that have been maintained over time. There scenes of the film "The shadow of the tiger" directed by Nicolás Sarquis, based on aspects of the life of Facundo Quiroga were recorded.
Note: it is not a museum, nor is it free access, but a family home where the descendants of the primitive settlers reside. Sources
