Nevrast
In the imaginary universe of J. R. R. Tolkien, Nevrast is the region south of the Dengrist Estuary and southwest of Hithlum; was in the triangle formed by the Echo Mountains (Dor Lómin) to the east; the Shadow Mountains to the south; and the coast of the Belegaer to the west; the northern border was constituted by Cirith Niniach. at the southern apex was Mount Taras, where the city of Turgon, Vinyamar, lay beneath its foot. Due to its climate, Nevrast belongs to Beleriand, but in the mountains it is grouped in Hithlum because "it was a more pleasant land, watered by the humid air of the sea and protected from the cold winds of the north that blew on Hithlum ... "and stood in a deep hollow between the great cliffs of the Coast.
Its name is Sindarin and can be translated as "coast of aquende", as opposed to Haerast ("distant coast"), that is, that of Aman
There lived Turgon son of Fingolfin, when he came from the Imperishable Lands until the end of the first century of the First Age of the Sun and before leaving for Gondolin.
Some placesThe following are some of the places linked to the Nevrast region and that have some significance in the stories developed in The Silmarillion. Linaewen
Linaewen ("lake of the birds") is the great lagoon of Nevrast, so called because there lived a great quantity and variety of birds. It was located in the center of Nevrast and was surrounded by wide marshes of tall reeds. When Fëanor knew the Lagoon he marveled at the birds that inhabited it. Annon-In-Gelydh Main article: Annon-In-Gelydh The Gates of the Noldor, built by the village of Turgon when they dwelt in Nevrast, and was the entrance to a stream of groundwater in the western hills of Dor-Lómin; led to Cirith Ninniach ("rainbow crack"), which was the mouth of that stream in the Western Sea. It was a large vaulted stone arch that led to a long tunnel and descended a few steps carved into the rock; beside them the river fell in a great waterfall, but a path ran parallel to it. This tunnel was transposed by Tuor to bequeath Vinyamar for the encounter with Ulmo. Monte Taras
Located on the shores of Nevrast, on a promontory, at the angle that forms the extensions to the sea of the Echo Mountains and the Shadow Mountains. Before the arrival of the Noldor, many villages of gray elves lived under their shadow; but there Turgon (before going to found Gondolin) was established in Vinyamar built at his feet.
