Banu Qainuqa
The Banu Qainuqa (Arabic: بنو قينقاع) were one of the three main Jewish tribes that lived in Medina in the seventh century AD. In 624 AD, they were expelled by the Islamic Prophet Mohammed.
The Expulsion of Medina Since Muhammad had arrived in Medina, he had turned the city into a base for his raids on caravans heading to Mecca, and of course this was causing friction with the original inhabitants of the city, while relations between the Jews and Muslims in Medina also gradually worsened. The first Jewish tribe to get in trouble with Mohammed and his followers were the Banu Qaynuqa. Shortly after the battle of Badr, Muhammad gave the Banu Qaynuqa an ultimatum:"Jews, convert to Islam before what happened to the Quraysh happens to you." ()
But the Banu Qaynuqa refused to convert and instead entrenched themselves within their fortress. Muhammad besieged them and after 15 days surrendered. Muhammad ordered all the men of the tribe to be bound for execution. At that time, Ibn Abd-Allah Ubayy, a new Muslim convert who was an old friend and ally of the Banu Qaynuqa, asked Muhammad to be lenient with them. Then Mohammed simply confiscated their properties and goods and told them that if they left Medina in 3 days, they would not be harmed. The Banu Qaynuqa fled first to Wadi Al Qura, and then out of Arabia to Syria. ()
